Replacing Multiple Missing Teeth
Gwinnett Dental Implant & Periodontal Center is a leading provider of a wide range of dental care services, including solutions for missing teeth. If you are missing more than one tooth, we can help to replace them using multiple tooth implants. The implants, which are surgically inserted in your jaw, feature prosthetic dental crowns that are custom designed based on the size, shape, and color of your teeth, thus helping to restore a perfect appearance and giving you a great smile.
Are You an Ideal Candidate for Multiple Tooth Implants?
If you have lost more than one tooth, multiple tooth implants could offer a perfect solution. However, to qualify for the treatment, you must meet some requirements, which mostly include great oral and overall health. For dental health, your jaw and gum tissue must be healthy, strong, and sufficient to support the implants. You must also not be facing any dental health issues - for example, gum disease, gum recession, oral infection, etc. – which could cause the implants to fail.
For overall health status, you must be in great health such that you would not experience any complications following the surgical procedure. Therefore, health conditions such as cancer, having received or preparing to receive an organ transplant, autoimmune disease, and other serious health situations that could lead to complications will most likely disqualify you from the procedure.
Preparation Before the Multiple Tooth Implant Procedure
While the surgical implant placement procedure is usually carried out in one session, it is often a long process that starts long before the day of placing the implants. To start with, the treatment must first be determined, which happens during a consultation where your oral health status is evaluated. Following the evaluation, if it is determined that you are an ideal candidate, you can proceed to get the treatment.
However, if you have failed to meet the requirements, one or more dental care solutions can be offered to make you ready for the implant placement. For example, if your jawbone and gum tissues are damaged or insufficient, it is possible to receive bone regeneration and gum grafting surgery to restore them.
Additional preparations that can be performed before getting the implants include taking an impression or creating a digital design of your teeth, which will then be used to fabricate custom dental crowns. If you are damaged teeth are still in place, tooth extraction can be performed to allow the gums to heal before the procedure.
What to Expect During Multiple Tooth Implant Placement?
The actual surgery is carried out under anesthesia, the choice depending on the complexity of the procedure and your sedation preferences. After you have been sedated, the gum tissue is cut (surrounding the area where the implants are to be placed), which opens up the jawbone. A hole (where an implant is to be inserted) is then drilled into each implant site. After this, the implant is inserted, and the gums sutured to close the wound.
How Many Implants Can You Get?
The number of implants to be placed is dependent on the number of teeth to be replaced. Ideally, as many as 32 implants can be inserted (each for one missing tooth), but this is not usually the case. For patients who have lost too many or all teeth, solutions such as implant-supported bridge are used, where at least two implants are used to support a dental bridge.
