Have you noticed that now and again, when you brush, there is a little blood that comes from your gums? Do your gums ever look puffy when you examine your teeth in the mirror? If so, you may have already started to develop gum disease. The best thing to do is to make sure you have a cleaning done every six months on top of always keeping up with your oral hygiene routine. If this does not happen, you could develop gum disease, which requires treatment. If you ignore it, the problems will progressively get worse.
What Happens When You Ignore the Signs of Gum Disease?
Ignoring the signs and symptoms of gum disease is not going to cause the problem to go away. What will happen is that you will progress from what is essentially a treatable problem to what is considered a chronic illness which can only be managed. This means that as time goes on, the problems that you face will get worse and you will face more problems. If we catch it early, we can treat it and restore your oral health. If we do not get to it early, it will get worse and leave you with far more problems.
You go from bleeding and puffy gums in the beginning, to the potential of infected gums, shifting teeth, and even tooth loss. Your gums can recede, leaving you in pain, and you can also lose bone in your jaw if you lose teeth from gum disease.
It is never a good idea to ignore the symptoms of a problem in your body. Your mouth is equally as important as any other part of your body, and it deserves equal treatment. If you know or even suspect you have the signs of gum disease, call us today so we can get your oral health back on track.
