How to Best Care for a Senior's Teeth? When you get older, you also get wiser. When it comes to your teeth, the hope is that the lessons you learn early on about how to care from them are not forgotten. While the basics of oral health care do not change as you get older, there are some things that seniors can do to help them avoid problems with their teeth. The aging process does change things in the way your gums and teeth look and work and that means the basics may not do enough.

Problems Associated with Aging

There are many problems that people can face with their teeth as they get older. Lost or broken teeth and receding gums are common problems for seniors. Dry mouth, discolored teeth, and misaligned teeth are also common problems. Gum disease and thrush are a threat to the oral health of a senior.
These things and other may or may not happen as a person gets older, but they are all a possibility. Knowing the dangers and adding a few things to the oral health routine can help prevent them from causing trouble.

What to Do
There are a few basics that all seniors should do to improve the health of their natural teeth. Brushing twice a day and flossing at least once a day are habits that should last a lifetime. An anti-septic mouthwash is something that can help remove bacteria on the teeth and gums and is something that can help seniors maintain good oral health. It is also important to visit our offices twice a year for cleaning and a checkup.

In addition to this, seniors should pay attention to any changes in the teeth and gums. If they notice things such as swelling, pain or redness around their teeth and gums, they should contact our offices. Loose teeth and receding gums are something to watch for. The key is not to ignore any signs that something is not right with your teeth and do something about it as soon as possible.

Take a minute and contact our office today to schedule an appointment to help you improve the health of your teeth.
