About Dental Implants

We're Atlanta's premier practice for dental implants.

Holistic Dentist

These days, more and more people are beginning to see how a person’s overall well-being is connected to many different things that we put into our bodies. This includes the food we eat, the cosmetics we use and even includes the type of dentists we select.

At The Gwinnett Dental Implant Center, we practice holistic dentistry. This means we explore the substances we use to identify possible negative impacts they can have on your body. It’s just one example of how we take the idea of “First, do no harm” to heart.

So, if you’re looking for experts in holistic dentistry, we’re here to help.

What Is Holistic Dentistry?

The concept of holistic dentistry is an alternative approach to dentistry that embraces the idea that your oral health is interconnected to your overall health. We focus on using biocompatible materials for all our restorative materials whenever we can. Our goal is to promote optimal dental health using only natural products and materials.

Since the early 19th century, dentists have been using amalgam fillings which typically contain more than 50% mercury. We stopped to ask ourselves, “Do we want mercury in our bodies?” The answer was clear that if we don’t want that solution for ourselves and our family, we should definitely explore alternatives for our patients.

In fact, many people now refer to holist dentists as “mercury-free” dentists, but it’s more than simply moving away from the use of products and materials that have mercury. Practicing holistic dentistry is about exploring more biologic and natural approaches to every problem we solve.

Far too often, dentists and periodontists have treated gum disease and problems with teeth as something separate from the rest of the body. Holistic dentists see more connectivity between what happens in the mouth as having an impact that can be seen throughout the rest of the body.

When it comes to dental implants, many periodontists around town opt for titanium implants. Whenever a patient needs dental implants of any kind, it’s always best to select one made out of the least reactive and toxic materials possible. Likewise, it’s important to evaluate the overall strength, clinical success and other factors associated with each material.

In the past few years, there has been a growing trend by many people to avoid putting metals into their bodies for a variety of reasons. That is exactly why many dentists have turned to zirconia dental implants.

Zirconia Dental Implants

Zirconia implants have been around since 1987 and were introduced as an alternative to the more traditional titanium implants which have been in use since the ‘60s. While titanium dental implants have a very high long-term success rate, zirconia implants have proven to be a very stable, reliable alternative in many cases.

Also, Zirconia dental implants are white in color, so they look like natural teeth. They are made up a mix of metallic and non-metallic atoms, so they are basically ceramic and transitional metal. For the most part, they have all the same advantages of titanium implants. Plus, Zirconia implants have a high level of biocompatibility and tissue integration. They also have a low affinity for plaque.

Holistic Dentist Near Me

Here in Atlanta, it seems like there is a dentist on nearly every block. But, not all of them strive to be holistic or mercury-free dentists. The next time you need dental surgery, don’t bother asking Siri or Alexa, “Where’s a holistic dental practice near me?” Just consider Gwinnett Dental Implant Center as the right call for you. Visit us and you’ll see the difference.

How Dental Implants Work

The first step in the treatment sequence is placing the implant in the jaw using a gentle surgical procedure. The bone forms a strong bond to the implant after just 6-12 weeks, providing a solid foundation for attaching a replacement tooth (crown). Both the gum tissue and the bone remodeling around the implant at the same time.

Following this brief period of time during which the bone is remodeling around the implant, fabrication of the replacement tooth can begin. This process involves a few appointments for attaching an abutment or post to the implant, taking impressions of your teeth, and checking for proper fit and color of the crown to match your existing teeth.

Since our doctors specializes in the surgical aspect of your treatment, he does not “restore” your implants. The final phase requires a “restorative” dentist. We have teameanith and established confident working relationships with many excellent restorative dentists in the area. Contact a specialist who can complete your final phase of treatment and give you that winning smile you’ve longed for.

Benefits Of Dental Implants

When searching for a suitable solution to tooth loss, dental implants are the perfect option for you. These artificial teeth provide a multitude of benefits such as:

  • Improved Self-Esteem- Many of us tend to be self-conscious when it comes to appearances, especially with things we can’t fix. Thankfully, dental implants are a permanent solution that can help restore your beautiful smile along with your confidence!

  • Durability- With a secure titanium base and a porcelain artificial tooth, dental implants are able to function just as any other regular tooth might!

  • Comfortability- Unlike dentures or bridges, dental implants are permanently secured in the mouth, eliminating any chance of that annoying slipping or shifting that you may face with other two solutions. By installing a titanium base that eventually fuses with the jawbone, dental implants are able to maintain a strong foundation that acts as an artificial root. This artificial root and the tooth attached work together to create a seamless, comfortable smile that you can enjoy for a lifetime.

  • Conveniency- Most other tooth loss solutions require specific hygiene routines that can cost both time and money. Dental implants, on the other hand, require no more than the basic oral health routines that should be met daily. For example, in order to keep your implant in mint condition for years to come, all you need to do is simply brush your teeth twice a day (yes for two minutes!) and floss at least once a day. By maintaining these basic care habits, your dental implant can last you a lifetime without the hassle of extra instructions that must be followed.

  • Appearance- With dental implants, you can return your teeth to the coherent and beautiful smile you once knew. Through the usage of porcelain artificial teeth and a titanium root, your dental implants can remain sturdily in position without a trace! With our complex design techniques, we will make sure your tooth blends seamlessly into your smile, making it look as if it had been there for years.

Types of Dental Implants

When exploring dental implants, you’ll come to realize there are two separate implant options that you can choose between. These include:

Endosteal implants– These implants require a three-part procedure. To begin the procedure, a device is surgically implanted into the jawbone and given time to heal. Once the gums have healed, a post will be secured within the device. After both the device and post are secured, an artificial tooth will be attached to the post, completing the procedure.

Typically today we only place Endosteal Implants, however the choices today are really between Zirconia and Titanium implants, the former being a non-metal, all ceramic type of implant.

Dental Implant Pricing

Unfortunately, dental implant pricing can vary based on many different factors. Some of these factors include the number of implants being installed, the procedure being carried out, the dentist, surgeon, or periodontist, and your location. Thankfully, we at Gwinnett Dental Implant Center work to provide you with low prices without compromising the quality of our work.

As for dental insurance coverage, the majority of dental implant procedures are not fully covered by insurance agencies. However, depending on the agency, some dental insurance plans cover a portion of dental implants, making this recommended solution even cheaper for you!

Safety and Pain of Dental Implant Procedures

When preparing for your dental implant procedure, the first step is taking the standard safety precautions that are suggested for any other minor oral surgery. Aside from these basic recommendations, your oral procedure should be quick, easy, and nearly painless. Fortunately, we take advantage of using local anesthesia throughout the procedure to ensure that you won’t feel a thing! Following the procedure, there may be mild pain that some have compared to that of a toothache, but nothing that you couldn’t bear or that over-the-counter painkiller couldn’t fix. Much like any other procedure, there are small risks, although they are uncommon. The most commonly seen of these risks is simply infection due to a rejection of the implant. If this uncommon reaction takes place, call up one of our professionals and we can help you solve it in no time!
